Belkin F5C400-300W 2 Outlet Dc/Ac Inverter Review

Belkin F5C400-300W 2 Outlet Dc/Ac Inverter
Average Reviews:

We bought this item so that we could use our laptop in the car and also to be able to plug in more items in our RV. I like that it has two outlets.
Some people have said it was "loud" but I didn't understand that at all. Yes, there is a quiet "whirring" sound from the fan, but if you're driving down a highway or have the radio on low, you'd never hear the fan.
I think it was a good purchase. Worth the money and I'd recommend it to a friend.

Average Reviews:

I bought this inverter to run my home fridge during power outages. It works great. No problems starting and running the compressor. It even handled a 1/2" drill motor easily.
I picked this one for it's power and voltage display. It allows me to estimate the battery draw so I have an idea how long it will last. I also liked the USB power source, although I have not used that yet.
It does come with nice HEAVY power leads (with clips), although they are very short. Good enough to set right next to a battery and clamp on.
So far, no complaints or problems.

Stanley PC1A09 100 Watt Power Inverter with USB Power Outlet Review

Stanley PC1A09 100 Watt Power Inverter with USB Power Outlet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this unit because there is no cooling fan, and rated 100W continuous. It makes no sound at all. Instruction book states it creates a modified sine wave for AC power, not the standard square wave which can lead to excessive heating. Modified sine wave was exactly what I wanted.
I have powered a GPS unit through the USB charging port together with a laptop PC, with the PC operating and battery charging, no problems. Unit did not get hot. I'm thinking I should get another.
Caution, the inverter plugs into the dashboard 12V car adapter quite tightly. Take care when removing the inverter from the dashboard by holding the dashboard 12V car adapter in place while rocking the inverter back-and-forth to remove, so as to not pullout the 12V car adapter from the dash.
The fit needs to be snug so the inverter does not work loose from the dash, but I think it is a bit too tight. I give it a Good (4) rating because of the tight fit, otherwise it would be Excellent(5).

I love this thing. it has a usb port for usb powered devices, and simply does what it's supposed to do. You can plug stuff into your car and use them when you're driving that you normally could only use in your house. There's a built in cooling fan that's quite loud, but i generally can't hear it over my margarita mixer, and belt sander.

Duracell 813-0807 800 Watt DC to AC Digital Power Inverter Review

Duracell 813-0807 800 Watt DC to AC Digital Power Inverter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very good inverter. I like that it has a digital display so I can calculate how long the battery will last. I usually use it with jump pack/ battery backup system that I built out of this battery boxMinnKota Trolling Motor Power Center. It works much better than a typical jump pack that you can purchase on here. I use an 80 amp hour (usable power without extremely discharging battery) so I can run whatever I need to for quite a long time. I keep it recharged via my cigarette lighter to the boxes cigarette lighter (you will need a cable with 2 male ends). It is a very good setup and this inverter easily mounts to the side of the box. Hope this helps and gives the inverter a better rating... The other two reviews are absolutely worthless.
By the way, you can purchase an adapter to be able to plug this into your cigarette lighter. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE 800 WATTS! You could then use this inverter to power equipment up to about 150 - 200 watts otherwise you will need to attach it directly to the battery.

I just completed a 5500 mile trip in my car using this power inverter to run a boom box, computer, digital camera or battery charger.
It worked for everything, without fail, whether the car was running or not and even works seemlessly when transitioning from car off to car running.
It never blew a circuit breaker, either the car's or its own. As long as you don't try and overtax its 140 W limit (which I didn't) I can't imagine why you'd ever have any problems with this product

Tripp Lite PV300 Power Inverter with Cigarette-Lighter Adapter (300 Watts) Review

Tripp Lite PV300 Power Inverter with Cigarette-Lighter Adapter (300 Watts)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is in response to another reviewer who gave this a 1-star rating, because he couldn't use more than 125 watts without blowing the cigarette lighter fuse. The inverter is not at fault. Most cig lighter sockets are limited to a maximum of ten amps of current, and 10 amps times 12 volts equals 120 watts.
If you want to use a 300 watt inverter up to its full capacity, you can't use the cigareatte ligher socket to power the inverter. Instead you'll need to install an accessory power socket with at least the same amp rating as the inverter's fuse.
These accessory sockets are often sold with battery clamps on them for direct attachment to a battery, but some models of accessory sockets can also be directly wired to a spare fuse slot on your vehicle's fuse panel and mounted on or under the dash. Many vehicles have 2 or 3 spare fuse circuits available for add-on electrical accessories like this.
If you are not comfortable doing work on your vehicle's electrical system yourself, I suggest contacting a car audio business to see if they can install one of these accessory sockets for you, or if they can direct you to someone in your area who can.

The description does not match what I got. There were no meters and no cables. Of the two pictures, the smaller blue one is what I got. I would have over looked this deception if it could deliver 1500 watts. It did not. It ran my computer OK but when I tried to print on my laser printer, it failed. A different brand (Go Power) is what I'm using now and it works great with the same hook up. In this case, I feel it is better to pay a little more for a different brand. They did refund me only 80% which makes me think it went back on the shelf for the next victim.

Cobra CPI 875 800 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter with USB port Review

Cobra CPI 875 800 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter with USB port
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very good unit, for what it is designed to do. It is up to Cobra's usual high quality standards. There are a few things you should know before you buy it though.
There are a couple of comments about the unit not putting out full voltage - however, if you go to the Cobra website and read up on this unit you will see that a standard voltage meter will not read the voltage correctly due to the sine wave configuration, instead it will read low voltage. Measurement requires a specialized meter, an RMS if I recall correctly. I have read also that some electronics work fine with the modified sine wave and some pick up some interference. It would probably be worth the time and energy to research which would be the case for your particular electronic application, before buying.
Another quite important thing to know is that this unit, while rated at 1600 watts, will only run at 800 watts continuously. The 1600 watts provides room for start up surge, but not for running more than a few seconds. I bought mine to use in my car. First thing I tried was a 1500 watt heater, and it would run for a few seconds and then stop. Then I tried a 750 watt heater and it ran just fine. So check your application and see if it will be 800 or less watts, if more, get a bigger unit.
Another important thing to watch for on automobile installations is the output of your alternator. Many cars have alternators with as little total output as 60 to 75 amps. You can calculate the amp draw by dividing the AC watts by 12 and then multitplying by 1.1 - so in my case the 750 watt heater draws 69 amps from the battery/alternator. If I had a 60 or 75 amp alternator then there would be a serious problem. Probably the battery would be drained while driving and I would end up with a dead battery, at night, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by zombies pounding on the windows....
I have a 135 amp alternator, but since I am not sure exactly how much amp draw my car uses while running at night with headlights (most of my driving is after dark) then I am not completely sure how much reserve/overage I have for the inverter. As a result I only run the heater intermittently so the battery won't drain. If your application pulls enough amps to cause the charging system to run at system capacity so that the alternator continuously puts out 100%, the alternator will not last nearly as long as normal. I never run my heater when the engine is idling, at idle the alternator puts out about 40% less.
If you are going to use this in a running car, try and find the total amp draw needed for the car,(I found that my alternator runs at about roughly 60% when idling so I am guessing that my total draw would be about 50% of the total capacity of the alternator at full speed, or 68 amps in my case, but that is a guess) subtract that from the total output of your alternator, and then compare your alternator's power reserve with the draw from the inverter with your application, to make sure you have enough total capacity with some margin. Mine would, based on this theory, run a 2 amp deficit. Or do what I do and run the application only intermittently so the battery gets charged up and the alternator isn't running at 100% capacity all the time, and never while the engine is idling.
If you are going to use this in your car while driving, the supplied cables are not going to work for you, they are too short. The inverter is not weather proof so it can not be mounted under the hood where water can splash up on it, or dust get into it. It needs to be in a weather tight environment with good air circulation, it also doesn't like heat. I took a pair of heavy jumper cables and soldered bolt connectors on each end and ran these to my cars interior. I added an in line 100 amp fuse in case of a short in the cables.
If you are going to use this on a battery only, there are formulas to determine how long the battery will supply the load you need - you can find the info with a goole search easily. It would most likely be worth your time to run the formula before buying, to make sure that you are going to get sufficient run time from the battery you have or plan to get. If frequent recharging is in your future, consider deep cycle batteries.
In summary, this unit works, within it's limitations, and I am happy with it. I would have given it 5 stars, but the Amazon description of the unit's true continuous run capacity should be more detailed than it is.
August 2009 - I see that the description has been changed so that it better represents the 800 watt continuous capacity. Kudos to whoever made that honest change!

I just ordered this inverter because my 15 year old Whistler 1500 watt is going on the blink. If this one lasts have that long I will be totally happy. I think the trick to long life is mounting it horizontal and give it plenty of air space around it for cooling. I use it in my Locksmith van to run key machines, a Dremal and laptop. Not at the same time. I also don't let the inverter get stressed, I run the truck while in use. This puts less stress on the truck battery to. Past experience is why I am going with Whistler.

Whistler PI-800W 800 Watt Power Inverter Review

Whistler PI-800W 800 Watt Power Inverter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this inverter after researching several different models. My house is fairly rural, and I lose power a half-dozen times a year. About 2 of these outages last more than a day, so clearly this won't help with that, as I don't have a dozen deep cycle batteries lying around.
This model has incredible starting capacity, and I purchased this model because I wanted one that could start and run my fridge from a battery so I don't lose a few hundred dollars in food every time the power goes out. The manual states that this model can provide 2x rated power (1600 w in this case) for a FULL 10 SECONDS. That is incredible and unheard of in an inverter this price. If you download the manuals for most, they state they can provide 2x rated power, but for only 0.1 second. 0.1 second? That's hardly helpful, and won't start any motor. I can confirm that this unit will easily start and run both of my refrigerators without any difficulty. Obviously the surge capacity is reduced with the batteries reduced power capacity, and it won't surge 2x when the battery is low. Additionally, I was impressed with the manual recommending "just try it", if you didn't know if the inverter could handle your load. That indicates they trust their design, and gives me confidence as well.
Just today I used this inverter with a trolling motor battery from my boat. I was able to watch TV and operate a lamp with a CFL bulb for about 5 hours until power came back on. This includes my 57" CRT projection TV, 700w amp and DirecTiVo. My Kill-A-Watt EZ indicates that it pulls about 350w idle. It ran from this inverter for 5 hours without any difficulty, and only became warm to the touch. The power output is cleaner than my borrowed generator; the TV picture was rock solid, no audio artifacts through the amp.
Caveats:
1) When the battery runs down, the surge capacity is reduced. It still had an hour of TV left, but it would no longer start the fridge.
2)The power is not clean enough to satisfy the APC UPS on my TiVo. It ran the battery down on the UPS since it was convinced my power was dirty. Moving the power to the inverter directly solved this problem.
3)This unit pulls a LOT of current when running. Tonight one of the nuts on the battery post was loose, and the inverter kept shutting down. Once I realized the problem, I tightened the nut and all was well. The loose nut could not provide the current needed to run the Inverter. Mess with the battery clamps, and it will give you a big spark, pretty bright if your power is out. ;-)
