This is the four port valve. It has two large ports, one for the big carb bowl vent, and one for the vapor canister. The vapor canister port has a medium bypass that leads to a canister control valve in front of the carb. It is what you need to put the vapor system to factory correct for 1987-1988 Montes including the SS model. This will not work for previous years because of a total different setup. Learned all this the hard way and studying books and engine pictures. Hope this helps!

I have installed a Pertronix Ignitor model 1162A in my 1967 Chevy van. It has a 250 cubic inch straight six, which is a replacement salvaged from a similar-aged Chevy in 1978.
I installed only the Ignitor module, I did not do anything to the spark plugs, plug wires, rotor, or coil. However, I do have a Bosch "Blue" coil and self-made 8mm silicone copper-core plug wires installed. I installed the Ignitor simply to eliminate the points and condenser, which have gotten increasingly expensive. The van is unrestored, but well maintained, and has been in continuous use since it was new, mainly in the summertime since I have had it. It now gets 3000 miles of use per year, more or less.
Installing the module in the distributor was certainly not difficult. The breaker plate with the points is removed by just two screws, without any disassembly of the components on it. The only part of the installation which takes careful attention is the cutting out of the slot in the distributor cap for the wires to the coil. I used a high-speed grinder with a steel burr, and beveled the edges so there were no sharp corners to cut into the grommet. It would be useful if Pertronix would supply a stick-on template as a guide for exactly what size and shape this cut-out should be. What would be even better would be if they would design the breaker plate and wire grommet to come out through the same opening where the OEM primary wire does. However, obviously this would take some re-engineering, and would probably be more expensive to manufacture as well. I used a second cap, cut the slot, and then transferred the plug wires over, one at a time to be sure to put them in the right places. If you needed to put the original breaker plate back on, the slotted cap could still be used, and the point gap and timing would probably be close to right.
The engine started right up, in fact so quickly it startled me a bit. The timing was retarded a few degrees from where it was supposed to be, and while correcting this I found that the vacuum advance was not functioning. I fixed that and set the timing to factory spec.
I have taken two fifty-mile drives, and two 250-mile drives. The engine runs smoothly, and partial throttle accelleration is much smoother and more effective than before. However, I think that correcting the vacuum advance operation probably has more to do with that than the Pertronix module does. That being said, it is obviously doing it's job switching the coil, I have had no instances of misfiring or backfiring at all. I haven't come to any conclusion about whether fuel mileage has improved, but it is at least as good as it was before. The only thing which remains to be seen now is the reliability and longevity of the unit, which, as you might guess, is important to someone who has used a vehicle for almost forty years.

Having made the mistake of purchasing a regular non-sealed battery replacement for my Delco freedom and suffering the corrosion boilover problems because of it, I finally wised up and bought the optima because it is also a sealed battery design and therefore no corrosion problems. For those that are looking to run a small to mid range piece of equipment, this baby does the job. I have been using it to power a 50w ham rig, and it works like a champ.
-There are plenty of more expensive ones out there, but whats the point? runs cool and quiet, and is a great price!

I just received the Whistler XTR 440 and I am impressed at what you get for the money. The unit itself is easy to operate, and full of features found in much higher priced detectors. Visual alerts are conveyed by a blue-backlit LCD text display whose backlighting is adjustable to a variety of configurations. For example, it can be set to appear briefly during alerts and mode changes and remain off the rest of the time to save battery power. The Whistler XTR-440 runs on three AA rechargeable Ni-MH (nickel metal-hybride) batteries. The batteries (which are included) must be charged for about six hours before you use the unit the first time, and the only way to charge them is with the power cord that's included. I suggest buying an ac-dc adapter so you can charge the unit from an electrical outlet indoors instead of leaving it plugged into the car(cigarette lighter plug) any time it needs a charge. It has an auto shut-off feature which kills the power after a user-adjustable delay, so you won't come back to the car and find the detector down for the count. I'm not getting a lot of "false" alarms either, so far I'm impressed. The XTR-440 offers two filter modes to limit false alarms. These progressively increase its resistance to common sources of falses, particularly the poorly shielded local oscillators of older Cobra radar detectors, which seem to be everywhere. I run my 440 on Filter 1 default and with X band off, since New Jersey and Ohio are the only states where X-band radar continues to be found in any number and I don't live there, and it makes for a quiet ride. Finally, The only real difference between this unit (XTR-440) and the higher priced XTR-540 (about $125-$150) is the 540's built in digital compass, so if you can live without that, save the money and get the XTR-440.

Setting Saver Setting Saver saves your personalized settings so that when the detector is turned off and then on again, you do not have to re-enter them.
Selectable Auto Shut Off Auto Shut Off Mode automatically shuts off the detector. The timer is reset when the detector is turned off, the power cord is unplugged, or a button is pressed. This helps save batteries. The detector will alert you with an audible and visual warning before it shuts off.
Safety Warning System--SWS This relatively new radar is not for speed detection at all, it is used to keep you informed of highway safety. Transmitters are installed and programmed (for example: in emergency vehicles) to make you aware of possible situations that may require your attention, such as: ambulance vehicles that are moving or stationary, road hazards ahead, road construction delays or detours, etc.
VG-2 Cloaking The VG-2, also known as a "radar detector detector," is a special receiver used by police to detect signals radiated by a radar detector. Thanks to Whistler's patented VG-2 cloaking technology, your detector will remain invisible to VG-2 detection.
